Press • DOTGO Partners with DI Digital to Create Next-Generation Text Messaging Campaigns
NEW YORK, New York—September 23, 2009—Mobile messaging platform DOTGO, owned and operated by Scientific Media, Inc., has formed a strategic alliance with mobile marketing company DI Digital, a Diverse Images company. DOTGO's new, proprietary mobile platform together with DI Digital's 20+ years of experience in the advertising and media industries, creates a powerful combination of leading-edge technology and in-depth marketing expertise.
This partnership has brought the best of two worlds together, allowing advertisers to finally realize the true potential of the text messaging channel.
The evidence can be seen in the high-profile campaign they recently created for General Mills to introduce the new Wheaties Fuel, featuring top athletes such as Albert Pujols, Kevin Garnett, and Peyton Manning. The campaign was just named one of the top ten of the summer by Mobile Marketer.
DOTGO is helmed by two widely renowned astrophysicists—Kenneth M. Lanzetta and Stefan Gromoll—who have created a patent-pending markup language for text messaging, called CMRL. What HTML is to the web, CMRL is to the text-messaging world. CMRL allows content to be displayed via text messaging, even on mobile phones that lack web access.
The principals at DI Digital—Chi Modu, Kristin Volk, and Steve Proctor—have extensive experience working at top ad agencies such as Arnold (owned by Havas), Deutsch (owned by IPG), and Saatchi & Saatchi (owned by Publicis), working with major advertisers such as General Mills, P&G, JC Penney, VW, Royal Caribbean, Hershey, and GSK, and collaborating with top media agencies such as MPG and Zenith Optimedia.
DI Digital was formed to leverage the seismic shift that has occurred in how we consume media, often referred to as "content-snacking." This growing demand for short-form content—as evidenced by short videos on YouTube, 140 character Tweets, Facebook status updates, and 15 second TV spots—is particularly dramatic in the text messaging arena. Texting is the most widely used function on mobile phones, far surpassing calling. And while less than a quarter of all mobile phones in the US are web enabled, 98% have text messaging capability. So if advertisers rely only on mobile web and mobile apps, they are missing a lot of potential consumers.
Despite the fact that overwhelming consumer demand for short-form content and the near-universal availability of text messaging capability make text messaging a powerful way for marketers to connect with their audiences, existing text messaging campaigns are very rudimentary, which is why DOTGO and DI Digital see so much untapped potential in this space.
Gromoll, of Scientific Media, Inc., calls the alliance "a match made in Heaven." Says Gromoll, "Between our technological know how and DI Digital's marketing and strategic expertise, we are well positioned to bring a new level of text messaging solutions to the marketplace."
Chi Modu, founder of DI Digital, adds, "Texting is the most widely used application on the planet, and it is perfectly aligned with our growing obsession with concise content. DOTGO gives us the technical capability to create a multidimensional text messaging campaign that is far more engaging and effective than anything done to date."
